O2 Wireless Festival preview: David Gray interview; ENGLAND: London INT David Gray (Wireless Festival Headliner) interview SOT - it's been rejuvenating to change tack for couple of weeks / feel quite fresh - the touring wears you out / gig gives you adrenalin, so they look after themselves / some shows are special but others become routine and need music to lift you through it / learn how to pace yourself / after few years novelty wears off - outdoor shows are completely different / huge amount of people at festivals / all kinds of variables / all feels bit alien / at show in Ireland, people burnt anything to hand - looked like Lord of Rings / in controlled environment you don't see much of audience but with festival it is opposite and can be distracting - some acts are great at tuning in to outside vibe / some bands at Glastonbury do it well, other bands don't do it well at all / it's bigger than you and involves everyone / you can be inspired if good band on before you - success of 'White Ladder' has opened doors for people doing same kind of thing / record companies are putting money into people / suddenly they are everywhere / everyone's looking for next thing to come along, then there's knock on effect / same thing happened to my record - it succeeded so lot of other people came along and did similar so fighting with that / winds of fashion blow this way and that so best to plough your own furrow - have to change / make sure you're true to what you want to do / Tom Waits is good example, now he's huge act / people who've managed to inspire me are those who have kept going over decades
