Tougher Water Restrictions Come Into Effect In Southern California As Drought Worsens
EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 1: Water fills in to pass through ultrafiltration membrane modules in a water recycling process at West Basin Municipal Water District's Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility on June 1, 2022 in El Segundo, California. For 75 years, West Basin has provided drinking water to Los Angeles County. However, at this facility, they focus on recycling water for industrial and irrigation use, as well as restoring aquifers with highly-treated water, in part to create a barrier against intruding seawater. New water restrictions are aimed at reducing water consumption by 35% and will affect around 6 million people living in Los Angeles, Ventura and San Bernardino counties who receive their water from a member agency of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
