Indonesia marks May 1, Labor Day
PLEMBANG, INDONESIA - MAY 1: Thousands of laborers gathered in Indonesia's South Sumatra province to mark May 1, Labor and Solidarity Day, on Wednesday.
Upon the call of trade unions and non-governmental organizations, a large group of workers gathered on the main street of Palembang city and marched to the city square.
They carried banners red flags and chanted slogans.
May Day or International Workers' Day first emerged as an event commemorating the labor of workers worldwide on May 1, 1886, when a group of workers in the US held a massive strike for an eight-hour workday. (Footage by Muhammad A. F. /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
