Thin film of soap, light microscopy - HD stock video

Reflected light microscopy of lipid islands in a thin film of soap. The differing colours are due to thin film interference, and depend on the thickness of the film. Thin film interference occurs when light reflects from both the top and bottom of a thin layer, with the reflected light beams being out of phase by the thickness of the film. As white light is made up of the full spectrum of colours, some of the wavelengths will interfere destructively and cancel each other out, while some will interfere constructively and enhance each other
