Rehearsal Held For Parade To Mark Naruhito’s Enthronement

Police and the Self-Defense Forces held a rehearsal in central Tokyo on Oct. 6 to ensure the safety of imperial family members at a parade marking the enthronement of Emperor Naruhito. With SDF honor guards seeing them off, a 300-meter line of cars started moving around 7 a.m. from the plaza in front of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward and traveled about 4.6 kilometers to the Akasaka Palace in Minato Ward. A car supposedly carrying Naruhito and Empress Masako was surrounded by police on motorcycles. Several police vehicles were on guard in areas in front of the Imperial Palace and Diet building, while officers on foot patrolled the streets.
