GVs Memorial service for eighth anniversary of Damilola Taylor's death
GVs Memorial service for eighth anniversary of Damilola Taylor's death; Richard Tayalor (Damilola's father) reading lesson SOT
- Today my son Damilola should have been looking forward to his 19th birthday in a few weeks time / he should have been doing things that carefree young people do
- today we light four candles in honour of all lost children / let the candles represent will of change from north, south east and west
CUTAWAY
Boris Johnson listening
Richard Taylor speech continued SOT
- on Sept 20th 2008 I was proud and honoured to march alongside many of you / we marched to stop the knives, we marched with unified hearts and sheer desperation / we marched to bring change and our young angels marched alongside us
- today the memory of our lost children, I call on all the young people of this great country
and most especially this proud capital
CUTAWAY
Councillor Eliza Mann
Richard Taylor speech continued SOT
- I call on them to feel our pain and share our sorrow / I asked them to look into their future / I asked them to see their own children playing happily in the street and to recognise this is the future their own parents aspired to
- I asked them to respect their communities, I asked them to respect each other, I asked them to respect themselves
- today I am proud to have my son and daughter standing here alongside me to remember a son, a brother and a mother and a wife
- today I ask you all to join me in remembering three words of a brave young man who turned the world on its axis earlier this month in his personal quest for change
- I ask you to remember these three words when you ask yourself this question - can we make our local communities better places to live in
- so as to honour the memories of our lost angels today I ask you to join me in saying - yes we can - thank you
- hands over to another speaker
