Many hospitals in Beirut non-functional following deadly blast

BEIRUT, LEBANON - AUGUST 20: Following the deadly explosion of this month's deadly explosion in Lebanon, many hospitals in the capital are too damaged to admit patients. Saint George Hospital University Medical Center which was damaged after the massive blast is trying to survive amid coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country's capital Beirut. The hospital also known as Al Roum Hospital is completely damaged in the explosion. Manager of Al Roum Hospital Dr. Ayd Azar said they evacuated the hospital right after the explosion. “After the evacuation, we established a field hospital in the middle of the road. We transferred all equipment and emergency patients there,” he said. The doctor said that four nurses, five visitors, and 13 patients lost their lives in this hospital. Azar said “We are still trying to determine the damage caused by the explosion to the devices in the hospital. We are in a great financial loss.” On Aug. 4, at least 200 people died and around 6,000 were injured when an explosion in a warehouse filled with a neglected stockpile of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate ripped through the Port of Beirut.
