Estonia ferry disaster: Search for bodies / British survivor tells his story

Estonia ferry disaster: Search for bodies / British survivor tells his story; d) FINLAND: Turku: INT CMS Paul Barney, Estonia ferry survivor, PKF, SOT - it was a quiet night in the bar so I went to bed early - in this case bed was the cafeteria/ I nearly spent the extra on a cabin that night & that probably would have been a mistake/ there was a bit of lurching & some noises which woke me up - but I thought nothing of it/ noticed the boat was listing quite severely so I got up & things started to slide around/ some people were making a break for the centre of the boat/ I was looking for a lifejacket/ there were no life-rafts no lifejackets at that exit point from the boat except one which was across a causeway which was a slide into the ocean at that point/ the boat was continuing to move & rolling sideways/ I was with an Estonian guy & we were debating about what to do & how we would last in the water & he said four minutes/ he made a break for that life- belt then the waves came & dragged him back down though the ship/ I never saw him again/ I don't know if he made it/ eventually the boat went completely on its side & the ceiling became a ladder as there were pipes on the ceiling so I thought it was time to try to find a life jacket/ I made my way to a life-raft & threw myself in/ it was pretty stormy & the boat turned over so we ended up on top of an overturned raft/ I was in shock as was everyone else/ I talked with an Estonian girl that I pulled on the raft - she was hysterical so we just cuddled/
