Secretary Mattis explains Afghan war update omissions

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis at a House Armed Services Committee hearing on defense strategy and nuclear posture review tells North Carolina Congressman Walter Jones that President Donald Trump challenged every assumption and assessed the vulnerability of pulling out of Afghanistan, a strategy that permitted a more regional approach that had grown NATO ally participation. Mattis says the Taliban and Haqqani had not made the pitch to the Afghan people in a positive way by emergency murdering innocent people, it had been a long hard slog but any attempt to keep information from the American people was a NATO decision and a mistake. Mattis says a number of headlines of the news obviously selected by the editors to make the storyline they have but a regionalized strategy would draw in more allies and put the enemy on the path toward accepting reconciliation and America was out to conquer it.
