Nimbin,NSW;May 6,2018; Widgibil Aboriginal Elder conducts a smoking ceremony at the start of the Mardi Grass parade. His people are the traditional custodians of the land. The smoke cleanses the air and protects the participants. This is the 26th consecutive annual Mardi Grass in Nimbin, a rally for Cannabis Law Reform held on the first Sunday in May. With the imminent introduction of medicinal cannabis into Australia, the Festival this year was even more important, placing emphasis on the decriminalisation of Marijuana.
