Underwater pic of the Gulu Guli Shankara temple’s underwater Shivalinga - stock photo
An underwater pic of the Gulu Guli Shankara temple’s underwater Shivalinga.
It is located around 35 Kms from Shivamogga, Karnataka, India. Near the main temple is a small pond/Kalyani called JaTa Teertha. Formed from a natural underground spring, this pond has a large Shivalinga inside – which makes a great subject for photography considering the heavy growth of moss all around it.
The story goes that Shiva requested Ganga to come down from His locks into this pond so He could quench His thirst when He was visiting this place with Parvati. The vertical mossy growths in the center of the pond are considered as Shiva’s JaTa, and the water is believed to have medicinal properties.
