Rome, Italy, July 22 -- A suggestive color palette of a sunset highlights the silhouette of the Altare della Patria, in the historic center of the Eternal City. The Altare della Patria or Vittoriano is the Italian National Monument built between the Capitoline Hill (Campidoglio) and Piazza Venezia in 1885 in honor of the first king of Italy, Victor Emmanuel II. Inside is the grave of the Unknown Soldier, a National Monument dedicated to all the Italian soldiers who died in the war. The Altare della Patria is the setting for all Italian civic celebrations, in particular the National Day of the Republic on 2 June and the Liberation Day on 25 April.
