ANATOMY of THICK SKIN--Epidermis, Dermis, Sweat Gland Duct, Sensory Receptors (Meissner's Corpuscles), 25X. A spiral sweat gland duct is seen in the Epiderms. Four layers are discernible in the epidermis--stratum corneum (keratinized, horny layer), stratum granulosum, stratum spinosum and stratum basale (also, stratum germinativum or basal cell layer). Two Sensory Receptors (Meissner's Corpuscles, touch receptors) are seen in the uppermost part of the dermis, just below the basal layer of the epidermis, The dermis is composed mainly of irregular dense fibrous connective tissue.
