Experiment with electrically powered exoskeleton Varileg at research lab of ETH Zurich - stock photo
Zurich, Switzerland - June 10, 2016: A group of young scientists at a lab of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland, are setting up an experiment with "Varileg", the prototype of an electrically powered exoskeleton that aims to enable paraplegics to walk. Varileg is buckled on and provides the paraplegic pilot with a supporting structure and electric motors to move and control both legs. Because it can mimic the natural behavior of the knee during gait very accurately, Varileg is the first exoskeleton that does not struggle on uneven terrain.
