Two Chinese technicians wait for additional fluorescent tubes to be brought up to them as they replace the lights in McDonald's famous yellow arches 14 January 2000 at one of the more than 30 outlets in Beijing of the US-based fast food chain giant. Based on how successful McDonald's has become internationally with its meat-between-two-buns approach to feeding the masses, Chinese fast food companies are hoping to duplicate, if not out-perform, the fast-food giant's popularity at home and abroad by marketing their own Chinese-brand of fast food with more variety and flavour based on China's wealth of cuisines from around the country.
