Albert Einstein and Ernest Rutherford, the Royal Albert Hall, 1933.
UNITED KINGDOM - MARCH 08: This picture shows Albert Einstein (1879-1955) and Ernest Rutherford (1871-1937) at an appeal for funds for the Academic Assistance Council in 1933. When Jewish scientists were forced to leave Germany, the AAC tried to find them posts in the UK and the USA. Einstein and Rutherford were two of the greatest minds of the early 20th century. Einstein conceived his theory of relativity in 1905, stating that the speed of light is the same in all frames of reference moving relative to one another. This was one of the foundation stones of the modern understanding of physics. Rutherford proved the existance of alpha, beta and gamma rays of radiation. (Copyright Sir Mark Oliphant.)
