(Original Caption) : Sheet 14A: These pages discuss the confluence of currents. Folio 23v analyzes this phenomenon by means of a controlled experiment. The text and illustrations on folio14r are concerned with the flow of water around obstacles. 23v SYNOPSIS: This is an elegant page of studies on the physical nature of water, including the explanation of a method to measure the force of a stream of falling water. Leonardo experiments with the physical properties of water, its resistance and cohesion: "How water has tenacity in itself and cohesion between its particles; this can be seen in its drop which, before it separates from the rest, stretches down as much as it can, holding up at the point of contact until it is overcome by the excessive weight of the water which goes into increasing it." 14r SYNOPSIS: This catalogue of 26 cases deals with hydrodynamics and the meeting of two o (Photo by Seth Joel/Corbis/VCG via Getty Images)
