Cable laying ship operates off the coast of Marske by the Sea
MARSKE-BY-THE-SEA, UNITED KINGDOM - AUGUST 17: The NKT Victoria cable laying ship operates off the coast of Marske by the Sea as it lays cable as part of the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm project on August 17, 2024 in Marske By The Sea, United Kingdom. The 1.4 gigawatt Sofia Offshore Wind Farm is sited on the shallow central area of the North Sea known as Dogger Bank. Currently under construction, the project is located 195 km from the nearest point on the UK’s North East coast on a site of 593 square kilometres. The electricity generated will be transported from there, via a high voltage direct current export cable, to landfall 220 kilometres away near Redcar, Teesside. Power generated by the project will enter the national grid and will supply power to approximately 1.2 million UK households at a rate of 5.4 terawatt-hours a year, contributing nearly half of the annual electricity requirements of the north-east UK.
