The Damanhur Federation is a community located in Piedmont, north of Turin, in the Valchiusella where it was founded in 1975 by Oberto Airaudi, based on his philosophy. Starting from 1978 the members of Damanhur secretly dug a long series of tunnels, rooms underground that were then decorated creating a temple, known as the Temples of Humankind. The temple was discovered in 1992, in 2001 the Guinness World Records recorded it as the largest underground temple in the world. (Photo Leonello Bertolucci/Getty Images)
