Miami, UNITED STATES: The blood thinners Clopidogrel (L) manafactured by Apotex Inc. and Plavix which are used to prevent heart attacks and strokes are pictured in a pharmacy 10 January 2007 in Miami. Apotex is challenging the validity of a patent covering the main compound in Plavix and is seeking permission to market their generic version of the blood thinner in US federal court in a trial set for 22 January 2007. Manufactured by Paris-based Sanofi and licensed by New York-based Bristol Myers, Plavix generated 6.3 billion USD in global sales last year and is the biggest-selling drug for Bristol-Myers and the second-biggest product for Sanofi.
