Special Constable Harbans Singh Jabbal, a Sikh man born in Kenya becomes the first British police officer to wear a turban on duty, 28th January 1970. Mr Jabbal, an officer at East Ham police station, is a 43-year-old father of six, who worked as a Detective Chief Inspector in Kenya until 1966. Here he sets out on his first patrol with PC J.
