Robert Boothby
circa 1940: Scottish Conservative politician Sir Robert John Boothby (1900 - 1986). Boothby, born in Edinburgh, began his political career as a Conservative MP for East Aberdeenshire and was appointed Winston Churchill's private parliamentary secretary in 1926. He became private secretary for the Minister for Food before serving in the RAF during World War II, and was an original member of the Council of United Europe. After retiring from politics he worked as a public affairs commentator, on television and radio, and published several books including 'My Yesterday, Your Tomorrow' (1962).
