Removing The FDLR
LANGIRA, WALIKALE DISTRICT, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO - FEABRUARY 14, 2009: Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF) move to their next base on foot, as always, through the remote reaches of North Kivu. The Mai-Mai militia have been incorporated into the new Congolese military (FARDC). The Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF) in the Democratic Republic of Congo are working with the FARDC, Mai-Mai, and PARECO (the political wing of the Mai-Mai) to rid the country of the FDLR (Democratic Liberation Forces of Rwanda, or Interhamwe). RDF methods are to walk, penetrating the dense and difficult landscape, paying locals to carry things where necessary, working in the very most inaccessible areas.
