Pom-Pom grils from Long Beach Poly High are shown entertaining crews of U.SS Rupertus as it led two other destroyers to dock at Long Beach's Pier A, Berth 1-2 in from Korea via Honolulu after third tour of duty in Far East. No. 1: Sam Boarts, EM/3, hands Chirstmas [sic] package to wife Shona from gangplank as he hold box of other gifts on shoulder. He is off the Rupertus, flagship of Div. 32. No. 2: Mrs Arthur Barrow holds daughter Dianne, 3 mths., who shows dis-interest in awaiting father who has never seen her. He is Ch. Machinist Mate Arthur Barrow of 4809 Hersholt Ave., Lakewood Park. No. 3-4: Ch. Machinist Mate Arthur Barrow couldn't wait for gangplank to hold daughter Dianne he had never seen until yesterday. Baby was handed up to him and shipmates gathered around to have a look. Left, Bill Miller, Gunersmate [sic];and Jimmy Hicks, Gunersmate [sic]. No. 5: These two sailors couldn't wait for gangplank either, they leaped to dock (fortunately Long Beach's dock subsidence made leap not to [sic] great) to greet their wives and babies they had never seen. Left to right: Seaman and Mrs Donald Steinmet with Jimmy, 5 mths, 1778 Lime Street, Long Beach;and Seaman and Mrs Donald Sommers, with son Larry, 4 mths. Sommers' live at 2362 Miramara Street, Long Beach. No. 6: Glum! Even these pretty dancing pom-pom girls from Long Beach Poly High School, couldn't cheer up these sailors seated on pier head stringer. Why? They are all from Eastern cities and had to wait arrival there form welcome given local shipmates. 7: Caption to come. 8: Closeup of Seaman and Mrs Donald Sommers with son Larry.
