KOREAN WAR-SEOUL-MARKET

Picture taken in May 1951 of a market in Seoul during the Korean War, two months after heavy fightings against the Korean People's Army and the People's Liberation Army that allowed UN forces to retake Seoul, on March 14, 1951, which would remain in the hands of the UN until the end of the conflict. The Korean War between North Korea and South Korea began on June 25, 1950 when some 75,000 soldiers from the North Korean People's Army poured across the 38th parallel, the boundary between the Soviet-backed Democratic People's Republic of Korea to the north and the pro-Western Republic of Korea to the south. This invasion was the first military action of the Cold War. The war ended with an armistice on July 27, 1953. (Photo by BERNARD ULLMANN / AFP) (Photo by BERNARD ULLMANN/AFP via Getty Images)
