The glowing interior of Monreale Cathedral in Sicily, Italy d8
Palermo, Sicily, Italy - 23 September 2019 The Cathedral of Monreale is one of the greatest surviving examples of Norman architecture; it was begun in 1174 by William II of Sicily and elevated to the rank of a metropolitan cathedral in 1882. Since 2015 it has become a UNESCO Heritage site. Its golden mosaics fill the church with an exalted and beautiful glow. Here we see the its sublime mosaics and architecture, with the striking figure of Christ dominating the Church. Note, as in all Sicilian places of Christian worship, there is no charge or ticketing for entrance to this church. (Photo by: Planet One Images/Universal Images Group via Getty Images)
