Cardinal Barberini's Candlestick

One of the candlesticks by Carlo Spagna and attributed to Bernini drawings, though this is under debate. It was commissioned by Cardinal Francesco Barberini and was presented to the church ca.1670. At the base three angels, each holding a crown of thorns are separated by medalions with lapis - lazuli surrounds. The medallions, of worked rock crystal, show seens of the Passion, and are by Anna Hamerani, [who was of German descent]. Above is a shrine containing three statues, that visible may be of St. Christopher. Below the caryatids is a flral and festoon design, circa 1670. (Photo by David Lees/Corbis/VCG via Getty Images)
