Mosaic glass fragment, glass, millefiori technique, Total: Height: 2.10 cm; Width: 2.00 cm, Floor coverings, wall decorations, floral ornaments, Early Imperial Period, The small glass fragment shows a variety of different types of flowers in millefiori technique on a black background. In the center there is a red circular line with white dots arranged around a yellow dot with a red border. Next to it is a yellow circle with white dots around a center of a yellow dot with black and red border. There are also other warped flowers of yellow and green color, some of which are cut. In Roman times, colored, ornamented glass was used for vessels, mosaics, wall decorations and furniture ornaments. For the production different colored glasses were formed into tubes and rods. These were pressed together and heated, resulting in a long rod. The glass, now cut into slices, had a variety of amorphous or floral patterns..
