Scores of protesters from India's restive northeastern state of Manipur attempted to march towards the national parliament in New Delhi over controversial tribal rights laws, demanding the federal government to use its power to withdraw the legislation. Demonstrators rallied with coffins to symbolise the deaths of nine tribal people in Manipur after violence erupted in Churachandpur district in September following the clearance of three contentious bills relating to the rights of indigenous groups by the state assembly.
