Press Conference On "Operação Mónaco" (Monaco Operation): Combating Transcontinental Drug Trafficking By Sea

The Judiciary Police, through the National Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking and with the support of the Navy, carried out in recent days an operation to combat international drug trafficking by sea, during which it was possible to locate and then intercept, on high seas, the Mobasi, a sailboat boat registerd in Gdansk, suspected of being used in the transport of large quantities of narcotics. Following the search one ton of cocaine in bales were found and seized, detaining the only crew member, a 53 year old foreign national. This operation, triggered as part of an investigation led by the DIAP of Lisbon, with the cooperation of the Drugs Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the USA, the Direction Nationale du Renseignement et des Enquêtes Douanières (DNRED), France, and also with the support of the Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre - Narcotics (MOC-N) based in Lisbon.
