German World War II Bomber Pilot Apologises To City
BATH, UNITED KINGDOM - APRIL 24: Luftwaffe bomber pilot Willi Schludecker stands in front of buildings in the Circus that were damaged during the Bath Blitz during World War 2 on April 23 2008 in Bath, England. The 87-year-old said it was his dying wish to return to the city he had last seen as a pilot of a Dornier 217E-4 on a bombing raid and apologise. The historic city was bombed over three nights in April 1942 and more than 400 people perished and 19,000 buildings were destroyed or damaged. Tomorrow Herr Schludecker will formally apologise at a memorial service. (Photo by Matt Cardy/Getty Images)
