Marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor
King Edward VIII became the first British king to abdicate the throne for his American divorcee bride Wallace Warfield Simpson. The two stand at Chateau de Cande where they were married in France on June 8, 1937. They were granted the status of Duke and Duchess of Windsor by Edwards younger brother King George VI.
