Indian jewellery craftsman Shashank show...
HYDERABAD, INDIA: Indian jewellery craftsman Shashank shows pearl necklaces studded with silver stones at his work shop in Hyderabad, 22 June 2007. From the year 1724, when Mughal governor Asaf Jah titled himself Nizam al-Mulk and established his rule over central India's Deccan plateau, until 1948, when the Nizam VII Osman Ali Khan's authority was forcibly superseded by the Indian Army, untold quantities of gems and pearls passed through Hyderabad's jewel shops located on Patthargatti Road. Eversince the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, also known as Pearl City, became a one-stop-destination for pearls.
