BOLIVIA-CRISIS-WOOL
A herd of llamas and alpacas are seen grazing at the foot of the Payachata peaks in the Sajama National Park, in Sajama, Bolivia, some 300 kms southwest of La Paz, near the Chilean border on August 5, 2009. In this remote region, where the production for export of llama, alpaca and vicuna wool are the foundation of the economy, the global financial crisis has hit hard. Coveted in the fashion industry, the price of the wool from these animals has fallen sharply - in some cases by up to 50% compared to last year - and brought the crisis that originated in the far-off financial centers of the world to this isolated corner of Bolivia.
