Trapping Mice Carrying Lassa Fever

Health worker during an outbreak of Lassa Fever in the village of Serabu near Kenema, Sierra Leone. The trappers were chosen because they have shown antibodies to Lassa Fever virus. The virus is carried by mice, so the workers set traps in houses near areas where food, particularly rice, is stored. Rice and water stored in the homes attract the mice, who urinate on the cooked rice or in the drinking water, passing on the virus. (Photo by Karen Kasmauski/Corbis via Getty Images)
