Gil Hodges Returning to Home Plate

(Original Caption) Gil Hodges is shown crossing the plate after hitting his 200th homer in the fifth inning of today's game with the Giants. Umpire Gorman and Giant catcher Ray Katt look on as the batboy greet Gil. This homer was something of a record maker, for it marks Gil as the only Dodger who hit 200 homers while with the club. It was his 30th home run of the season, and marks the fifth season in a row he has hit 30 homers or over. Dodgers beat the Giants, 9-4, to sweep the three game series and put the Brooks within a half a game of the league's lead.
