Giant Panda Cub Bei Bei Has First Birthday Celebration

WASHINGTON, DC - AUGUST 20: Giant panda cub Bei Bei in his habitat as the zoo celebrates his first birthday at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC on August 20, 2016. The zoo invited the public to the celebration which included a Chinese Zhuazhou, a traditional ceremony, where several symbolic objects are placed in front of the baby or in this case, the panda. The object that the panda chooses foretells something about his or her future. Bei Bei had three banners with painted symbols placed in his yard. He or his mother Mei Xiang (may-SHONG) will chose one and they chose Luck & Friendship today. The birthday festivities also included frozen birthday treat for all three.
