Jack Rutherfurd - Daytona Ferrari 1955
DAYTONA BEACH, FL — February 20, 1955: Jack Rutherfurd of Palm Beach, FL, brought this 12-cylinder Ferrari to the Daytona Beach-Road Course in 1954 and set a world record two-way timed run at an average of 136.03 mph. He brought the same car back in 1955 and broke his old record with an average run of 152.275 mph. However, he finished second in the Sports Car category, as fellow Palm Beach resident Phil Walters smashed the existing record with his Jaguar, achieving a two-way average speed of 164.136 mph.
