The Cunard Steamship Company Ltd was established in 1840 with the PS �Britannia� and her sister ships the �Acadia�, �Caledonia� and �Columbia� operating a monthly transatlantic mail service from Liverpool to Halifax, Nova Scotia and Boston. The company went on to become one of the most famous operators of transatlantic liners, including ships such as the Lusitania, the Queen Mary and the QE2. The Caronia was a Cunard transatlantic liner launched in July 1904.
