Mareys chronophotographs of a man doing a high jump, 1892.
FRANCE - NOVEMBER 12: Chronophotographic pictures of a man leaping over a high jump taken by Etienne-Jules Marey (1830-1904). Marey was a French physiologist and pioneer in the use of photography to record and analyse movement. His chronophotographic camera employed celluloid film, introduced by Eastman in 1889, and was the first to demonstrate the essential characteristics of a cine camera; recording a series of still images on a ribbon of film, which was moved intermittently between exposures.
