Dike Finished as Last Caisson Pushed into Place
(Original Caption) Caissons, filled with thousands of tons of concrete, are pushed into place to close the last gap in the ring dike near the island of Schouwen, which was severely damaged by spring floods last year. The latest dutch victory over the sea means protection for the people of Schouwen, many of whom were watching from a distance as the caissons were linked to lock out the ocean.
