Amtrak passengers Amos and Ruth Weaver, left, of Pennsylvania, and Gail and Jack Rogers, of Georgia, wait to board the westbound Sunset Limited at the Amtrak station in downtown Houston, TX, Monday night March 11, 2002. Due to staffing cutbacks, officials had planned to close the station at 6:00 pm, locking the depot and forcing passengers to wait in the parking lot. However, after Mr. Weaver "politely refused" to leave when an employee attempted to lock up for the night, an off-duty employee was called in to keep the depot open. It is still uncertain wether the depot will be open Wednedsay night, the next time the 9:08 PM arriving westbound Sunset Limited rolls through Houston. (Smiley N. Pool/Chronicle) 03/11/02.
