Ex-Guantanamo Bay Detainees
KABUL, AFGHANISTAN - FEBRUARY 4, 2009: Abdullah Hermat, 38, from Mazar, was in Guantanamo Bay prison for 7 years, and is seen here in February 4, 2009 in Kabul, Afghanistan. According to his testimony, he was taken by the Dostum people after 9/11 accusing him of being Taliban since he was a Pastun man living in the North. They later handed him over to the Americans, and he was sent to Kandahar and Bagram before Guantanamo. "I spent over 7 years in the prison for nothing, and in the end all I got from the Americans was that they were sorry. They tortured me, broke my arm, kept me in a very cold air conditioned room without clothes until I got sick and had to go to the hospital. The worst thing was when my wife died because she said she was suffering too much and didn't know if I was ever going to be released. My three children had no parents after she died and I was in prison." (Photo Paula Bronstein/Getty Images)
