This 1850 print is part of a tryptich battle scene by the great Utagawa Yoshitsuru, (worked 1847-1852)
It depicts the opening siege of Minamoto no Yoritomo; Hojo Tokimasa and others attack Yamaki Hangan, Samuri warriors with swords and arrows fight. from all sides, some gesturing while others swing swords and spears. At right, a samurai stands his ground, a castle rises in the distance. A great Edo era design with expressive figures and an attractive landscape setting.
